FASTag Annual Pass for Private Vehicles Launched: Price, Eligibility, and How to Activate
The vehicle owners must have an active FASTag linked to the vehicle registration number to purchase the annual toll pass.

Global FinDesk — Starting today, private vehicle owners in India can take advantage of the newly launched FASTag-based annual toll pass, designed to make frequent highway travel more affordable and hassle-free. The scheme applies to cars, jeeps, and vans on toll plazas operated by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).

Cost and Validity

The annual pass is priced at ₹3,000 and remains valid for one year from activation or 200 toll trips—whichever comes first. Once the limit is reached, the FASTag will automatically switch back to the regular pay-per-trip mode.

Eligibility and Coverage

  • Applicable only to private, non-commercial vehicles (cars, jeeps, vans).
  • Commercial vehicles like taxis, buses, and trucks are not eligible.
  • Valid across national highways and expressways managed by NHAI and MoRTH.
  • State highways are excluded unless integrated into the central FASTag system.

How to Activate the Pass

To purchase the pass, the vehicle must:

  • Have an active FASTag linked to the registration number and fixed on the windscreen.
  • Not be blacklisted in the FASTag system.
  • Update the tag if it is linked only to a chassis number.

The pass can be purchased through:

  • Rajmarg Yatra mobile app
  • NHAI or MoRTH official websites
  • Authorised FASTag issuer portals

Payments of ₹3,000 can be made via UPI, debit/credit card, or net banking (FASTag wallet balance cannot be used). Activation is typically completed within two hours, with confirmation sent by SMS.

Trip Calculation Rules

  • Point-based toll plazas: One-way crossing counts as 1 trip, return as 2 trips.
  • Closed/ticketed systems: A complete entry-to-exit journey counts as 1 trip.

The pass expires after 200 trips or one year from activation, whichever is earlier. Vehicle owners can purchase a new pass once the current one expires.

Cost Savings for Frequent Travellers

With the average toll for passenger vehicles at around ₹50, completing 200 trips in a year would typically cost ₹10,000. Under the annual pass, the cost is capped at ₹3,000, offering savings of about ₹7,000 for regular highway commuters.

Purpose and Benefits

The initiative aims to:

  • Provide financial relief to frequent travellers.
  • Reduce congestion and payment delays at toll plazas.
  • Ensure predictable toll expenses for regular highway users.
